Module Description
This course provides you with a short overview of the institutional settings and the regulatory framework of our financial system. We will also analyze the microeconomic foundations of the existence of financial intermediaries and products. Especially since the financial crisis it is important to understand how bank runs can be prevented, what the advantages and disadvantages of a universal bank system are and how the system can be stabilized. Additionally, we will look at the theory behind most important bank products (e.g. loans, deposits, derivatives). Guest lectures supplement the module with a practical view.
